Fast-Track Friday June 24, 2011

Happy Friday, everyone!!!

I am SO glad it’s the end of the week. I have the whole weekend stretched out ahead of me without any firm commitments, no must-do’s. I LOVE that kind of weekend! I decided to kick it off by participating in The Moments Fast-Track Friday contest. I just joined this group and it sounded like a fun thing to do. They post a sketch at 7 p.m. EST (two hours earlier for me), and within two hours, you have to post your interpretation. Here is mine:

I wasn’t able to attach my layout to my post in response to the contest, so I hope it will work by having directed them to my blog. Oh well, if not, I had fun doing a single-page layout under time constraints!

Have a great weekend. I’m sure I’ll be back again before it’s over :-).

SD mini complete! June 23, 2011

Wow, it’s pouring out there tonight. Lots of thunder and lightning too! But it feels like that kind of night, so it’s okay with me. Although I really do feel bad for the people who do not need this rain, like lots of places south of here. People are losing their homes and possessions, and that sucks. Sometimes life sucks, for sure. Like cancer. I despise that disease. More than anything else. It’s nasty and mean and preys on innocent and wonderful people. I pray for everyone out there who is fighting the cancer battle, who has won it, and those who just couldn’t fight anymore. Okay, now onto a happier topic.

Amy’s wedding! Isn’t she GORGEOUS?!! She is an amazing girl (woman) – beautiful on the inside and out. Put her in a stunning dress and, well, it doesn’t get any better! And check out the card box and candy bags she made … wow! She is very talented and creative. If only I had an ounce of what she has!!!

And, yay for me, I finished my mini album of our trip to San Diego! I know I’ve said this before, but I really LOVE working with minis! And the most fun of all was that this little chipboard album features mini pix!!! Little 2x3s that you can make by going into the ‘collage’ feature on the Kodak machines at Walmart or wherever. It’s cheaper that way too, because you get four little pictures for the price of one 4×6! Anyway, check out the pictures and let me know what you think. SO MUCH FUN. Yikes, BIG clap of thunder just now!

Now, for the next project … I haven’t decided exactly what comes now, but I’ve got a few things in mind. One of the scrapbooking stores in the city here is going out of business (boo hoo) and is selling everything for 40 percent off. Well how many trips do you think I’ve made there? TOO MANY!!! I seem to be addicted to these little chipboard albums, so I have stocked up (paid less than $1 each for some of them). Stay tuned for whatever I decide to focus on next! Actually, what I really need to do first, before anymore scrapping, is to re‑organize my supplies and do some kind of inventory. It’s grown a lot in just the short time I’ve been working at our kitchen table. And it’s kind of taking over the main floor of our house … yikes! So, yes, that is what I am going to do this weekend. But I want to get that done quickly so I can get back to what I really love to do!

Bye for now.

A BoBunny sketch June 22, 2011

Happy day-after-summer-solstace!

It’s been a beautiful spring here, if not a little wet. Besides the problems too much water causes (such as flooding and delaying seeding), it does make everything really green – and our season is so short that it is nice when it looks lush before summer REALLY arrives!

It’s been awhile since my last post. But it’s not because I haven’t been doing any scrappin’ … in fact, that’s exactly why I haven’t blogged! I’ve been hard at work on a mini album of our San Diego trip. So much fun those little albums are! Anyway, I am almost finished that – watch tomorrow for photos.

Today I want to share with you the layout I did using a sketch offered by BoBunny. I meant to submit it to their sketch challenge, but who knew when they said it had to be posted by June 22 that this meant before midnight??? I mean really, June 22 does go until 11:59 p.m.! So too bad for me, I missed submitting my first sketch. But that’s okay. I still had fun using a simple sketch as my inspiration to create this cute layout of Sydney. I used the BoBunny ‘gift of love’ product line for this. Gorgeous colours! Plus Sydney is so cute here :-).

Oh, and I forgot (not sure how!) to mention that my co-worker and friend Amy got married on the weekend. She was a gorgeous bride (did not take too much!) and her wedding was extremely well organized and full of colour. She is also a fellow scrapper who exudes talent. Tomorrow, I will post a couple of pix of her too!

Great start to the week June 13, 2011

Happy Monday!

It was an absolutely GORGEOUS day in Saskatoon today – summer! I didn’t get any time to scrapbook today, but I did manage to do a page on Sydney yesterday (picture forthcoming) AND I decided on my next project: a chipboard book of our San Diego trip. I am really excited about this! The first thing I had to do was go through our 500+ pictures online and decide which ones to feature in this 20-page album … yikes, not a lot of space to depict all the fun we had! So I figured I should choose my 20 favourite photos. Yah, right! Ninety-one, yes 91, snapshots later and I think I’ve got all the moments to capture in this baby book. But then I remembered that I could get MINI PRINTS! If you have never done these, you have to try them! They are so sweet! Anyway, it cost me less than $7 at Walmart to get 91 of these little puppies printed – they are 2×3, and four of them fit on a 4×6 picture, so you get four times the pictures for the same price you pay for a 4×6!

I came home and cut them all up, and then I had a stack of these miniature photos. So cute!!!! Then I mapped out the order of the book and what I wanted to feature and put the baby pix in that order. Then I set to work on this little book and got a couple of pages done. SO MUCH FUN! My daughter had a great idea for the book – include a magnifying glass for people to look at it – LOL!!!! You do have to squint a little to see the tiny pictures, but that is okay – this isn’t my main album for the trip, it’s just a fun little book that can sit on my cabinet and I can thumb through it. It’s a gorgeous little book (forget the brand), teal-coloured, embossed chipboard pages with teal flocked cover. Very nice. And it deserves to house some really special memories, which our San Diego trip was. It wasn’t perfect, though, because we were missing two of our sisters. That’s another story for another day. Their absence on the trip was more than noticeable – we are a close family and missing 1/3 of us wasn’t cool. But it was unavoidable. So the two sisters – Bonnie and Penny – who couldn’t join us should be the first to see my baby book!

Oh, one more thing. I think I mentioned that I joined Weight Watchers … and I ALSO have a bit of a shopping addiction when it comes to all things scrapbook. So I made a little deal with myself: I cannot buy anymore SB stuff until I reach my first goal of losing 10 lbs. YIKES! This is actually quite tortuous for me, but I will give it a try and have faith in myself that I can do it. WW is actually going really well – today was day 3. It’s a really good program; any of you out there who would like to shed a few pounds, I encourage you to give WW a try. Thank you to Rhonda, my rockin’ sister-in-law, for inspiring me – she is doing AWESOME on the program!!!

Nighty night!

A relaxing weekend ahead! June 11, 2011

What a glorious weekend!
I have been planning all week to get my household chores done as early as possible so I would leave time for myself to scrapbook. Usually I veg on Friday nights and sleep in on Saturday if the kids don’t have anything on the go. Today, I joined Weight Watchers, so I was up and at it bright and early for the meeting at 9:45, then I got the grocery shopping done. I hate buying groceries … so it felt great to get that job out of the way!
I don’t have a specific craft project on the go, but I need to decide on one (I am the kind of person who needs to have a goal if I am to achieve anything). In the meantime, I do a page here and there. Yesterday, I received THREE orders of scrapbooking stuff I’d ordered online. Can you say shopping addiction?!!! I was anxious to dig in. So I found a pagemap that I liked and got to work. I’d never used a pagemap before (this can also be called a sketch), but it’s just what it sounds like – a map to give you ideas on how to lay out your page. You can use whatever paper, embellishments, etc. you want. The results are different from person to person, of course, because we all interpret a little differently!
Check out the pagemap on Scrapbook& Cards Today’s blog. Then see my version below, which features products from the BasicGrey Olivia collection:

I like how it turned out. And it was fun to do a page for Shelby. It’s hard to believe how much she has changed and grown up in just a few months. These pictures were taken in October. She had just started army cadets and was really enjoying it. Without any training at all, she ran her first-ever biathlon! As you can see, she started out very chipper. By the end of the race, she was crying because she was so exhausted. But regardless, she did quite well. As the months passed, Shelby’s enthusiasm for cadets waned and she started hanging out with some kids who haven’t been a good influence. So we’ve been having some challenges. Nothing, I’m sure, that all other parents of now-grown children didn’t also experience! But part of the fun of scrapbooking is reliving the good memories, because those are the ones that are usually captured in pictures. So this page was a chance to capture my big girl at a great time in her life.
Okay, speaking of that girl, I need to go pick her up. And then we are going to barbecue burgers before I get back to my scrapbooking! Sydney has a friend over and they’ve gone swimming, and Gerry headed out to the race track tonight. I actually have a few flowers that have to be planted before the sun sets. If they don’t get into containers soon, they are goners!
Who knows, maybe I will be back with another post tonight if the creativity flows!

Amy’s special day … and my little chipboard books June 10, 2011

Filed under: Cards and misc projects,June 2011,Mini albums — amberscrappin @ 10:12 pm

Happy Friday!

I am SO glad it’s the end of the week! I love my job, don’t get me wrong. But now that nice weather is here, I look forward to the weekends a lot, even if I am not a big outdoorsy kind of girl. So it was an exciting party day at my office today. My co-worker and friend, Amy, is getting married next Saturday and today was her last day of work. We threw her a little pink-purple-and-green shin dig, in honour of her upcoming marriage! Seriously, I SCRAPBOOKED the cupcakes.

Our other creative co-workers made rainbow-coloured punch (my husband called in Funch – Fun Punch!) and even put bling on the ladle :-). So we did it up big! Amy is an awesome girl (I shouldn’t call her a girl, I guess, since she is in her late 20’s!) … very fun-loving, kind-hearted, and cheerful. She is also a good sport … check out these pictures.

Each day of the week, she had to wear the new piece of wedding attire we presented her with. Monday was the big blinking diamond ring; Tuesday the ‘bride-to-be’ sash; on Wednesday, a bright pink garter; Thursday brought a little more bling with pink beads; but today – well today, she had to add a tiara with veil!!! And she even wore her entire get-up out to lunch with the girls!!

In my last post, I promised you pictures of the little chipboard albums (my first ever) that I made as gifts my twin nephews, Greg’s and Jeff’s, little kiddos. First, you have to understand these babes – Parker and Hana (who belong to Jeff) and Dylan and Hewitt (who belong to Greg) are the sweetest ever. Adorable beyond belief and full of personality, and none of them are even 3 yet! Well what can I say … they have the Day gene :-). Oh, they get plenty of great characteristics from their moms too! Anyway, I whipped up these little albums for the kids and had a lot of fun doing it. Wasn’t sure how to approach chipboard at first, but then I dug in and had trouble stopping to sleep at night!

This first picture is the covers. I won’t put all of the photos in, just a few of my favourite pages.

I think I mentioned earlier that I made the last couple of pages interactive – being that these books were for curious little hands.

I hope you enjoy these pages – I sure had fun making them!

Okay, off to “deal with” my 15-year-old daughter … such a difficult time in life, for both her and us. I think I will be glad when she is 18 so she can legally do what she wants, since she seems to be anyway. For all of you who have raised kids to adulthood – I admire you greatly!

Wishing you a GREAT weekend!

Make-a-card Tuesday June 7, 2011

Good evening!

The weather was beautiful today … too bad I don’t do more to take advantage of the brief periods like this, but I would rather be crafting! I managed to make a couple of cards this evening, one for a friend’s birthday and the other for a friend who’s having a rough week. On the latter, I kind of ‘cheated’ by using a purchased card and just added embellishments. I just wasn’t feeling super creative! I never like the way my cards turn out, so I am looking forward to my first-ever card class on Thursday evening at one of the local scrapbooking stores. I know I will learn a lot!

Soon, I will show you pictures of two little chipboard albums I made for my twin nephews’ children. I had never worked with chipboard before and wasn’t sure how to start … but let me tell you, once I got going, I had a blast on those things! They were meant for very young (and incredibly bright) children, so near the end, I added a couple of interactive pages. I was really happy with how they turned out. So I will post pictures of those soon!

‘Night, all.
